Le Galerie Davide Di Maggio Berlino/Milano, in collaborazione con  la Fondazione Mudima di Milano, inaugura la seconda parte del progetto New Painters: part two, che si propone di dare una visuale del panorama della giovane pittura italiana e internazionale. In quest'occasione si confronteranno con gli spazi della galleria lo svedese Peter Ern, la coppia di giovani artisti (lei ceca, lui americano) Frantiska + Tim Gilman e l'italiano Fabrizio Modesti.

Peter Ern, nato nel 1965 a Norrtalje, Svezia, vive e lavora a Stoccolma. Già presente all'edizione di LISTE 05 a Basilea. I suoi quadri sono una sorta di pittura paesaggistica e l'ispirazione viene fuori da ciò che l'artista vede e da ciò che immagina. Le cose che dipinge sono i luoghi a lui vicini e che ciascuno di coloro che gli vive accanto riconosce immediatamente, come la stazione di servizio, il negozio sotto casa o la strada più volte percorsa. Spesso sono così normali da non essere più notati o pensati. Eppure l'artista è interessato a questi soggetti, perché trova che contengano qualcosa in più: "Io voglio che all'interno di ciascun quadro che realizzo, ci sia un mistero, un segreto nascosto che si cela dietro la quotidianità dei momenti o dei luoghi che dipingo. Può succedere che i miei lavori possano essere interpretati diversamente da coloro che guardano".

Frantiska + Tim Gilman, (1973 Praga - 1971 Connecticut). Le Galerie Davide Di Maggio presenta la seconda personale a Milano di Frantiska + Tim Gilman dopo la recente partecipazione alla Biennale di Praga, la personale alla Kunsthalle di Basilea e la personale a Berlino. I due artisti operano insieme dal 2000 e attualmente vivono tra Praga e New York. Il loro lavoro è improntato principalmente, ma non soltanto, sulla pittura: secondo i dettami del nuovo stile iperrealista, che sottolinea oggi gli intensi legami tra pittura, fotografia e new media, i Gilman dipingono la realtà quotidiana come fermo immagine. Ritratti, persone colte nell'immediatezza gestuale ma anche spazi reali e virtuali che funzionano quasi come ambienti e scenari dei loro personaggi. La pittura dei Gilman dunque si fonda su un ampio portato concettuale per definirsi come un campo ibrido di tensioni che arrivano, via via a coinvolgere altri mezzi. Parlando del loro lavoro insieme i due artisti sostengono: "noi siamo giunti alla forma finale del nostro lavoro attraverso la collaborazione. Questa dicotomia di soggettività e oggettività, vicino e lontano, si riflette in altri aspetti del lavoro: tensione, dualismo, distanza che noi sentiamo dal reale-che sia natura o altro, società, immagini o le nostre condizioni".

Fabrizio Modesti,  nato ad Arezzo nel 1966, dove vive e lavora. L'artista toscano, nella sua prima personale a Milano,  presenterà una panoramica della sua recente produzione . Il suo lavoro è caratterizzato da una pittura nell'eccezione tradizionale del termine ed è la chiara espressione di un immaginario in cui non vi è spazio per i non luoghi generati dalla cultura post moderna. Ogni ambiente tratto generalmente dalla natura possiede un'intensa identità conferitale proprio dal suo prodursi in modo casuale e libero, generando quelle particolarità che l'artista sa individuare ed esaltare elevandole a testimoni del suo climax. E' Modesti che si fa carico di raccogliere, classificare e selezionare i campioni di mondo, usandoli per segnare, tra infiniti percorsi possibili, quello da lui prescelto; tanti sassolini per ritrovare il sentiero dello stupore di fronte alla scoperta di una nuova dimensione umana.

The Galerie Davide Di Maggio Berlin - Milan, in collaboration with the Mudima Foundation in Milan, presents the project New Painters: part two, aimed at offering an overview of young Italian and international painting. This time the artists participating are the Swede Peter Ern, the young couple of artists (she is Czech, he American) Frantiska + Tim Gilman and the Italian Fabrizio Modesti.

Peter Ern, born in 1965 in Norrtalje, Sweden, lives and works in Stockholm. He participated in the LISTE section of Art Basel 05. His paintings are a kind of landscape painting, and the inspiration comes from what the artist sees, and what he imagines. He paints the places near him, that everyone who lives nearby recognizes: the gas station, the shop on the corner or a familiar street. They are often so normal that one no longer notices or thinks about them. And yet the artist is interested in those motifs, because he thinks there is more to them: "I want there to be a mystery, a hidden secret inside every painting I paint, something that is concealed behind the everyday reality of the moments and places I paint. It may be that my works are interpreted differently by those who look at them".

Frantiska + Tim Gilman, (1973 Prague - 1971 Connecticut). Galerie Davide Di Maggio presents the second individual exhibition in Milan of Frantiska + Tim Gilman after their recent participation in the Prague Biennial and their solo shows at the Kunsthalle of Basle and in Berlin. The two artists have worked together since 2000, and they now divide their time between Prague and New York. Their work principally, but not only, centers on painting, according to the dictates of the new hyper-realist style that today underscores the close bonds between painting, photography and the new media. The Gilmans paint everyday life as a frozen image. Portraits, people captured in the immediacy of a gesture, but also real and virtual spaces that almost serve as environments and backdrops for their models. In other words, the painting of the Gilmans is based on a rich conceptual content, and may be defined as a hybrid field of tensions that gradually come to involve other means. Speaking of their work together, the two artists assert: " we have arrived at the final form of our work by working together. This dichotomy of subjectivity and objectivity, near and far, is reflected in other aspects of the work: tension, dualism, the distance we feel from reality – be it nature or something else, society, images or our condition".

Fabrizio Modesti,  was born in 1966 in Arezzo, where he lives and works. The Tuscan artists, who presents his first individual exhibition in Milan, will show an overview of his latest production. His work is characterized by painting, in the traditional sense of the term, and is a clear expression of an imagery where there is no room for the non-places generated by the postmodern culture. Every environment, generally taken from nature, possesses an intense identity, precisely by virtue of its being produced in a casual and free manner, something that gives it the peculiarities the artist knows how to identify and exalt, elevating them to witnesses of their apex. Modesti takes it upon himself to collect, classify and select samples of the world, using them to mark, among infinite possible itineraries, his chosen one, using countless pebbles to find the path of amazement before the discovery of a new human dimension.

Die Galerien Davide Di Maggio Berlin/Mailand eröffnen in Zusammenarbeit mit der Fondazione Mudima Mailand den zweiten Teil des Projekts New Painters: part two, in dessen Rahmen junge italienische sowie internationalen Künstler vorgestellt werden. Dieses Mal treffen in den Räumlichkeiten der Mailänder Galerie der schwedische Künstler Peter Ern, das junge Künstlerpaar Frantiska + Tim Gilman (sie Tschechin, er Amerikaner) und der Italiener Fabrizio Modesti aufeinander.

Peter Ern, geboren im Jahre 1965 in Norrtalje, Schweden, lebt und arbeitet in Stockholm. Er nahm bereits an der LISTE 05 in Basilea teil. Seine Werke sind der landschaftlichen Malerei zuzuordnen. Inspirieren lässt sich der Künstler von dem, was er in seiner Umgebung wahrnimmt und was seine Fantasie daraus entstehen lässt. Er zeichnet die Orte, die sich in seiner unmittelbaren Nähe befinden und die jeder, der dort lebt, sofort wiedererkennt. Es sind Orte wie die nächstgelegene Tankstelle, das Geschäft unten an der Ecke oder die Straße, die man schon so viele Male überquert hat. Oftmals sind sie so simpel, das sie im Alltag kaum bemerkt oder an sie gedacht würde. Und dennoch ist der Künstler an diesen Dingen interessiert, weil er davon überzeugt ist, dass mehr in ihnen steckt: “Ich möchte erreichen, dass sich im Innern jedes Bildes, das ich schaffe, ein Mysterium auftut, ein verstecktes Geheimnis, das sich hinter der Alltäglichkeit der Situation oder der Orte, die ich zeichne, verbirgt. Dabei kann es geschehen, dass meine Arbeiten von jedem Betrachter anders interpretiert werden.”

Frantiska + Tim Gilman, (1973 Prag – 1971 Connecticut): Die Galerien Davide Di Maggio präsentieren den zweiten Teil der Einzelausstellung von Frantiska + Tim Gilman in Mailand. Z ihren letzten Ausstellungen zählen unter anderem die jüngste Teilnahme auf der Biennale in Prag, eine Einzelausstellung in der Kunsthalle von Basilea und die Einzelausstellung in Berlin. Die beiden Künstler arbeiten seit 2000 zusammen und leben zur Zeit in Prag und New York. Ihre Arbeit ist hauptsächlich von der Malerei geprägt: getreu den Diktaten des neuen hyperrealistischen Stils, den heutzutage Kunst, Fotografie und new media miteinander teilen, präsentieren die Gilmans die alltägliche Wirklichkeit als unbewegliche Bilder. Porträts, gehobene Persönlichkeiten, festgehalten in einer bestimmten Geste, umgeben von realen sowie virtuellen Räumen, die die Figuren in eine bestimmte Umgebung und Situation versetzen. Die Malerei der Gilmans folgt demnach einem weit ausgelegten Konzept und umfasst ein vielfältiges, spannungsgeladenes Feld, in das auch andere Mittel integriert werden können. Zu ihrer Arbeit sagen die beiden Künstler: “Über die Zusammenarbeit haben wir die endgültige Form unserer Arbeit erreicht. Diese Dichotomie der Subjektivität und Objektivität, von nah und von fern, spiegelt sich in weiteren Aspekten unserer Werke wieder: Spannung, Dualismus, Distanz, die wir zur Realität verspüren – sei es Natur oder etwas anderes wie Gesellschaft, Bilder oder unsere Gemütsverfassung.”

Fabrizio Modesti ist in in Arezzo im Jahre 1966 geboren, wo er lebt und arbeitet. Der toskanische Künstler präsentiert in seiner ersten Einzelausstellung in Mailand ein Panorama seiner jüngsten Arbeiten. Diese sind von einer Malerei abseits jeder traditionellen Bedeutung des Wortes gekennzeichnet: es zeigt sich hier deutlich eine Vorstellungskraft, in der kein Platz ist für die “Nicht-Orte”, die die postmoderne Kultur produziert. Jedes seiner Bilder, das die Natur behandelt, besitzt eine eigenwillige Intensität, welches das Ergebnis der freien und beiläufigen Realisierung des Künstlers ist. Dieser versteht es, jene Eigenheiten aufzuspüren und sie auf die Spitze zu treiben. Modesti macht sich zur Aufgabe, verschiedene Modelle der Realität zu sammeln, einzuordnen und auszusortieren, testet sie auf jede erdenklichen Weise, um sich schließlich auf eines der Modelle festzulegen; viele Steine, die ihm im Weg liegen bei seiner erstaunlichen Reise in eine neue, menschliche Dimension.
